The condition of the furnishings plays a very important role in how your employees will work and the impression your company will leave on the outside. It is therefore essential to choose it with quality and design in mind and also to look after it regularly. That’s the only way it will last as good as new.

Regularity is essential

It probably goes without saying that prevention is the best way to keep your furniture in great condition. This includes, in particular, regular cleaning, inspection and adjustment. How to do it?

Daily cleaning:

In offices, it may not be necessary to remove dirt several times a day, as in restaurants. But even here, you cannot do without daily cleaning and occasional more thorough care, which varies according to the type of material and how often it is used. So choose all products carefully so as not to damage the surface of the furniture.

• For wood and veneer, use mild cleaners without alcohol or harsh chemicals. Special wood cleaners are ideal, as they also give the surfaces a protective film. In addition, limit contact with water and the accumulation of moisture, which can degrade these porous materials. Wipe up spills before they can soak in. Although varnished wood resists water better, it is more susceptible to abrasions – so avoid cleaning sands.
• Laminate surfaces last longer than wood, yet require care to maintain their great looks and functionality. All you need are all-purpose cleaners that won’t scratch its surface.
• The metal should be treated with anti-corrosive products or a mild soap solution. On the other hand, it is not recommended to use aggressive degreasers.
• Exterior materials need to be protected from the weather, so products with UV protection and impregnation are suitable. Regular cleaning also includes the removal of dust or fallen leaves.
• Textiles benefit in particular from regular dusting. In addition to special cleaners, soapy water will also help against stains.
• On the other hand, water should not come on the skin at all. So use special products for the leather and remember to cream the surface from time to time so that it does not dry out and crack.

Weekly or monthly

It’s a good idea to deep clean surfaces weekly (in restaurants) or monthly (in regular offices): focus on less accessible areas where dust and dirt accumulate, such as corners, joints or under desk tops. To remove stubborn stains, use gentle cleaning agents appropriate to the type of material.

Functionality check and maintenance

For height-adjustable tables and other mechanical parts, regularly check the smoothness of the movement. Lubricate moving parts (e.g. joints or rails) from time to time to prevent wear. For electric models, regularly check wiring and electronics.

Frequently used furniture requires checking the condition of screws, joints and edges. This will prevent wobbles or cracks. And ensure that the weight is evenly distributed on the tables to prevent them from warping.

When is professional intervention needed?

You can usually take care of furniture on your own, but sometimes it is advisable or even necessary to contact a professional. He or she can ensure that the furniture is repaired correctly, safely and without risk of further damage.

For example, with height adjustable desks, there may be a problem with the electronics, sensors or motor that causes the height adjustment not to work. If the tables move, but something squeaks, clicks or makes other unusual noises, it may indicate wear or poor lubrication of parts of the mechanism. And if the table top tilts or is not stable when it moves, the stabilizing mechanisms need to be checked
