5 tips for well-being in the office: How to create a work environment that supports mental health

The work environment affects not only your results, but also your overall productivity, creativity, and mental well-being. Often, it only takes small details to turn your office into a pleasant and inspiring place with a friendly atmosphere where the best ideas come to life. 1. Go for natural light

The basis of a healthy working environment is sufficient daylight. However, not every building has large windows or glass walls, and not all employees have a desk in an ideal location. In such cases, we recommend installing lighting that mimics sunlight as closely as possible. This can be either large ceiling lights or small table lamps. However, classic white light is only beneficial during the day, so LED lights that can change color temperature are suitable for evening work. Ideally, this should be in the range of 2000 K to 6000 K.

2. Invest in ergonomic furniture

The next step towards physical and mental health is high-quality ergonomic furniture, especially an adjustable office chair and desk. Modern height-adjustable desks also allow you to stand, giving your muscles a little more healthy movement. On the other hand, cleverly designed storage spaces will give you maximum overview and greater peace of mind, allowing you to concentrate better on your work.

3. Bring the space to life with flowers and personal items

Indoor plants and fresh flowers also have an impact on well-being, combining several positive effects. Not only do they improve the aesthetic impression of the entire space and produce vital oxygen. According to scientists, they also purify the air and remove harmful substances from electronic devices. Ivy, philodendron, and date palm have proven to be the most effective in this regard, as they can cope with many chemical substances.

Uniform furniture looks elegant and minimalist, but often also cold and impersonal. You definitely won’t go wrong with a few decorative touches. These could be photos on a pinboard, souvenirs from your holidays or personalized coffee mugs. However, don’t go overboard, or the whole thing will look overdone.

4. Pay attention to color coordination

The colors of your work environment are also very important. Choose your paint colors, furniture, and accessories accordingly. Light green, for example, is popular because it evokes pleasant and calming feelings. At the same time, it has a positive and optimistic effect, which also has a positive impact on productivity. Yellow with warm undertones or orange will boost performance even more. Blue, on the other hand, should promote concentration.
You can combine the pastel colors mentioned above with neutral tones. These are dominated by white, which looks clean and organized, as well as light gray or beige. These shades are not as sterile and make the whole space feel cozier. On the other hand, you should avoid stark contrasts, especially black and white, as they are too distracting and some experts even claim that they sap energy.

5. Keep work and relaxation areas strictly separate

Modern offices also include kitchenettes, chill-out zones, and other places for relaxation, which need to be clearly separated from the work area. This can be done both visually and, for example, with acoustic panels. Here, too, furniture and lighting can express the company’s identity, but focus more on comfort and relaxation, which can be achieved with high-quality sofas and armchairs or beanbags. You can also choose lighting with a warmer undertone or interesting decorations in the form of paintings or photographs that you want to display in the company but which could be distracting in offices.
