Beech wood in furniture production:

Published at / Uncategorized

Hard, durable, and long-lasting

Many people still opt for oak or exotic woods. However, high-quality, durable beech wood is readily available and offers a wide range of uses. It is used to make durable bentwood furniture, parquet flooring, and plywood in many shades and at reasonable prices. What other advantages does beech wood have? Where is it best suited?

Solid form and simple shapes

Unfairly underrated, beech wood is resistant to mechanical damage, and furniture and interior elements made from it will last a long time looking like new. Due to its density, it also guarantees stability and can withstand high loads. It is easy to work with and is therefore suitable for the production of furniture, board materials, and smaller household items such as cooking spoons, cutting boards, and various organizers.

For classic and modern interiors

The design of beech is very versatile and diverse, making it suitable for modern offices in new buildings as well as classically furnished administrative and commercial spaces. All you need to do is adapt the choice of color and overall style of the furniture. The most popular color is currently a natural light color, which brings out the natural beauty of this wood. However, it can also be stained to imitate different types of wood.

Bent furniture of all kinds

Chairs made of bent beech are already iconic, with a timeless design that looks great in retro and vintage interiors. They are often chosen by owners of cafés, bars, and restaurants, and they also stand out in stylish kitchens because they are durable, create a pleasant atmosphere, and are very comfortable. In the Czech Republic, they were made famous by the Thonet company, which began manufacturing them in the mid-19th century, gradually establishing factories in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Poland.

Today, beech wood chairs can also be found in the Alupress Design range, in many designs, with or without armrests, and with upholstery in various colors. But it certainly doesn’t end with chairs. Tables and bar stools made from this material are also available, which will find their place in bars, hotels and cafés. Beech is also used in playrooms and children’s corners, where its stability and safety are particularly appreciated.

High-quality local source

The advantages of beech wood include its local origin and low environmental impact during harvesting and processing. It is the most widespread type of wood in Europe, which does not need to be imported from halfway around the world, guaranteeing a reasonable price without compromising on quality. Several species of beech grow in the Czech Republic, reaching heights of around 40 meters and differing slightly in color and other characteristics, but sharing the same main advantages. It has been used in the manufacture of furniture and accessories for several hundred years, while lower-quality beech wood is suitable for heating or for making cellulose.

Beech versus oak

Compared to luxurious oak, beech is a little more affordable and very similar in terms of durability. It is also similar in its versatility, functionality, and aesthetics. It is characterized by strength, hardness, and a uniform structure with fine pores, which give furniture made from this wood a consistent and even appearance. In addition, staining or varnishing can give it various shades ranging from typical light brown to pinkish, medium, and dark brown. Last but not least, it is comparable to premium oak in terms of durability, while being lighter and more environmentally friendly. Only in terms of resistance to water, sunlight, and scratches does oak really have the upper hand.

Easy maintenance further extends its service life.

If you are still unsure whether beech is the right material for your office or business premises, its easy maintenance will probably convince you. Simply treat it regularly with varnish or oil to protect it from moisture and wear. You can also use wax to prevent excessive drying or even cracking. When cleaning, use a damp cloth to remove dust and other dirt.
