We acquire much of our knowledge and many of our skills at school, shaping our lives well into the future. The better the education people receive, the more likely they are to achieve success and personal satisfaction. ALUPRESS DESIGN recognises the importance of educational institutions and counts them among its customers. The company’s products can be found in all types of schools throughout the Czech Republic, from kindergartens and primary schools to secondary schools and universities.
“For example, we have worked with Brno University of Technology and Masaryk University in Brno, as well as the Technical University of Liberec. We have completed projects for almost every university in the country. Sometimes we furnished offices, other times classrooms,” says company owner Václav Szaban. “We also supplied steel shoe racks and benches to Švestka Kindergarten in Prague 6,” he adds, giving another example.

The company furnishes classrooms, school canteens and outdoor areas. “We also manufacture outdoor benches and gazebos,” Szaban explains. For these projects, ALUPRESS DESIGN places particular emphasis on weather resistance, minimal maintenance requirements, long-lasting structures and aesthetic integration into the surroundings. Safety is also a key consideration, especially for kindergarten installations.

The way students learn is naturally changing. Compared with the past, modern teaching is much more dynamic. In addition to listening to traditional lectures, students work in groups, carry out practical assignments and prepare presentations. As teaching methods evolve, so do the requirements for school furniture.
Furniture must be more flexible, allowing classrooms to adapt quickly to different activities. Desks and chairs may need to be rearranged several times during the school day.
“Sometimes desks are arranged in traditional rows to help students concentrate. When desks are placed side by side, pupils have fewer opportunities to communicate with one another and can focus more effectively on their lessons. At other times, students sit in a circle for group activities, which encourages greater collaboration and coordination,” explains the owner of ALUPRESS DESIGN.
More Wood in School Interiors
Increasing attention is being paid to the environments in which pupils and students spend their school days. Wood is becoming an increasingly popular material in school buildings and interiors.
Why is that?
“The aim is to make people feel more comfortable at school, to create a cosier and more welcoming atmosphere – somewhere that feels a little more like home,” explains Václav Szaban.
Of course, wood alone does not make a high-quality classroom. Its natural appearance needs to be combined with robust structures, easy maintenance and other materials capable of withstanding the demands of everyday school use.
This combination creates exciting opportunities for ALUPRESS DESIGN products. A modern classroom no longer has to consist of fixed rows of desks that remain in the same arrangement throughout the entire school year.
Woodora tables can become a distinctive natural feature of a school interior.

Their frames are made from solid ash wood reinforced with steel beams. Alongside oak, ash is a hardwood known for its strength, flexibility and durability. Compared with oak, ash generally has a lighter appearance, making it particularly suitable for contemporary school interiors with bright, natural colour schemes.

Woodora tables combine excellent strength, low weight and a clean, modern design.
“They are designed to bring more natural elements into working environments and create a more welcoming atmosphere, whether in public spaces or schools. Interiors simply feel more pleasant when they contain natural materials. The trend is moving towards creating a more homely environment. These tables can therefore be used in classrooms and lecture halls as well,” says Václav Szaban.
Woodora tables are available in various sizes, wood stain finishes and wood species.
In addition to individual desks, the Woodora collection includes bench desk systems, corner workstations, larger communal tables, low lounge versions and high bar tables.
Woodora is suitable not only for traditional classrooms but also for school libraries, study rooms, staff offices, university facilities and shared areas designed for working and meeting.
Classrooms that need to accommodate different teaching methods require furniture that is easy to move and rearrange.
One suitable solution is the T-Table Evo folding table.
“It is lightweight, sturdy and easy to move thanks to its castors. The folding mechanism can be operated with one hand. Tables can be rearranged quickly and easily into different configurations, such as U-shaped or circular layouts. This allows people to face one another and communicate more effectively.
For presentations, the room can be arranged like a theatre or adapted to virtually any other activity,” explains the head of ALUPRESS DESIGN.

“Because the table is mobile, it can be folded and moved into a corner whenever more floor space is needed. It is easy to store and takes up very little room. Several tables can be nested together,” he adds.
This also makes the table ideal for conferences.
“You can set up a conference room and, once the event has finished, simply move the tables into storage. Even a child can practically handle the table because it is so light,” Václav Szaban emphasises.
Individual tables can be arranged separately, in pairs or in groups.
Within minutes, they can be transformed into several small workstations, one large communal table or a traditional classroom layout.
Once the tabletops are folded down, the tables can be nested compactly together. The classroom can then be completely cleared for presentations, workshops, physical activities or group programmes.
The Timmy Tilting 215R offers similar versatility.
“This mobile table with a tilting tabletop is designed for schools, training centres, meeting rooms and other multifunctional spaces,” says Szaban.
For both models, the tabletop finish can be customised to complement the overall interior design. A wood-effect or natural finish blends easily with other wooden elements in the classroom, while the metal frame provides the necessary stability and durability.

The number and arrangement of seats in schools often need to change quickly as well.
The Helene 1005 chair combines a strong steel frame with a durable polypropylene seat and backrest. Its surface is easy to clean and does not absorb dirt.
The chairs can be stacked up to five high, and a special trolley is available for transporting larger quantities.
This makes it easy to rearrange classrooms, lecture rooms, auditoriums and school halls.
“This chair is used extensively in schools and conference halls. In fact, it is probably the model we supply most frequently,” emphasises the owner of ALUPRESS DESIGN.

The Helene collection includes several variants.
Alongside the standard model, the range offers children’s chairs in different heights, chairs with armrests, versions that can be linked together in rows, beam seating systems and the Helene 1007 chair with a writing tablet.
This allows a consistent design to be maintained throughout different areas of a school.

Safe, Colourful and Playful Chairs for Children
Kindergartens and younger primary school pupils require a different type of seating.
Furniture must be suitable for the children’s age and height while also being able to withstand intensive daily use.
“The Bunny Junior children’s chair is available in three seat heights: 30, 34 and 38 cm.
For older children and adults, the Bunny Senior is also available with a seat height of 46 cm.
All versions share the same design, allowing schools to create a coordinated interior for different age groups,” explains the company owner.
Bunny Junior features safely rounded shapes, a strong welded metal frame and a durable plastic shell.
The material is coloured throughout, helping it maintain its appearance even when minor scratches occur during everyday use.
The chairs come in several colours and can be stacked up to eight high, making them easy to move and space-efficient to store.
“The rounded shapes are particularly important because they make the chairs safe. The design is also youthful and playful, which creates a pleasant impression.
With several colours available, the chairs bring a positive, colourful atmosphere into the room,” explains Václav Szaban.
The Tari folding chair is ideal for interiors where natural materials should be a visible design feature.
“It is made from bent and moulded beech plywood, bringing real wood into the room rather than just a wood-effect finish.
Thanks to its folding construction, it is suitable for classrooms, workshops, seminar rooms, libraries and other spaces whose functions change throughout the day,” says the company owner.
Mobile storage racks for four or eight chairs are available to simplify storage and transport.
Combining Tari chairs with mobile tables makes it possible to clear a classroom completely within a very short time.

In addition to standard classrooms, schools also have computer rooms, laboratories, technical workshops and other specialist teaching facilities.
For these workspaces, the AD-ASTRA 3-120 electrically height-adjustable desk offers the flexibility to alternate between sitting and standing.
With a load capacity of 120 kg, it can accommodate computers, monitors, educational technology and laboratory equipment.
“You can change your working position and adjust the height to suit your body.
When someone gets tired of sitting, they can raise the desk to bar height and work standing up for a while. Many people find this useful. They can even hold meetings while standing.
After sitting all day, people appreciate the opportunity to stand for a while,” Václav Szaban observes.
AD-ASTRA can serve as a teacher’s workstation, a presentation desk or an individual workspace for students.
Combined with a natural wood-effect tabletop, its ergonomic structure can be visually coordinated with other wooden elements in the classroom.
Natural materials create a visually calming environment, but good acoustics must also be addressed separately.
In classrooms, canteens and communal areas, sound reflects off floors, walls, ceilings and furniture.
Longer reverberation times reduce speech intelligibility and can contribute to fatigue among both students and teachers.
Wooden surfaces should therefore be complemented by strategically positioned acoustic elements.
“One option is the GEOMETRY GETANGLES suspended acoustic panels.
They help reduce disruptive sound propagation while also creating an attractive colourful or geometric feature within the interior,” explains the head of ALUPRESS DESIGN.
The panels are made from polyester fibre, 75% of which comes from recycled plastic bottles.
They complement wood with a material that serves a different, highly specific purpose within the interior.
Modern Schools Need Different Types of Tables and Chairs
Modern schools are rarely furnished with just one type of table and one type of chair.
Instead, furniture should be selected according to how each space is actually used.
“Different areas of a school can be equipped with Woodora tables for libraries, study rooms, staff offices and shared workspaces.
T-Table Evo and Timmy Tilting tables are ideal for flexible classrooms and training rooms, while Helene chairs are suitable for lecture rooms, auditoriums and multifunctional halls.
Bunny Junior chairs are designed for kindergartens and younger pupils, while Tari chairs work particularly well in classrooms that need to be cleared quickly.
The AD-ASTRA 3-120 height-adjustable desk is suitable for specialist, computer-based and ergonomic workstations.
Acoustic panels help reduce noise and improve speech intelligibility,” summarises the company owner.
The result is a school interior that maintains a consistent visual and material identity while meeting the different requirements of individual spaces.
“At ALUPRESS DESIGN, we do much more than simply supply individual tables and chairs.
We also develop complete furnishing solutions for schools, architects and interior design companies, tailored to specific floor plans and intended uses.
Alongside our standard products, we can design tables with non-standard dimensions, special structures, storage elements, partitions, acoustic solutions and complete furniture systems,” he explains.
“In our designs, we combine natural finishes with durable metal structures, easy maintenance and the flexibility to adapt layouts in the future.
