About the Project
The restaurant in the Globus Prague-Štěrboholy shopping center represents one of the most comprehensive interior design projects that ALUPRESS has ever undertaken. At the heart of the entire project was the production of fully custom-made catering equipment and furnishings—including serving counters, display cases, hot and cold food bars, and café sets. The entire restaurant concept is designed to be open: customers can watch the chefs at work and, at the same time, serve themselves from the serving counters and display cases. The delivery also included dining furniture, wall paneling, flower pots, and room dividers.
The entire interior was created in close collaboration with an architect who designed a modern restaurant concept combining natural materials with the industrial character of the hypermarket space. The key principle of the design is openness—guests have a direct view of food preparation and can choose their own items from the selection at the serving counters and in the display cases. Creating a dining area that functions in this way—where aesthetics meet strict hygiene standards and durability requirements—is significantly more challenging than simply supplying standard dining furniture. The result is a prestigious and functional space that serves hundreds of guests daily and, in terms of quality, significantly exceeds the standard of typical hypermarket restaurants.

Challenge
Designing and building the complete interior of a restaurant located within a hypermarket presented an exceptionally complex challenge. The key task was the custom fabrication of all catering equipment—serving counters, display cases, and bars—which had to meet strict hygiene standards while functioning within an open-concept layout where customers can directly observe food preparation and serve themselves. Other companies on the market can supply tables and chairs—but designing and manufacturing a fully custom, functional food service area with an open kitchen, serving counters, and self-service display cases is a significantly more complex undertaking.
The project’s specific requirements included harmonizing the visual identity across all interior elements while using various materials and technologies, ensuring maximum durability to withstand extremely heavy traffic with high guest turnover, adhering to strict hygiene standards for food service operations while also meeting the architect’s aesthetic requirements, and coordinating the production and installation of all elements so that they were delivered and installed in the correct order and on schedule.

Solution
ALUPRESS took on the responsibility for manufacturing and installing the restaurant’s complete interior, with the focus of the project being on custom-made restaurant equipment. In collaboration with the architect, each element was designed to support the restaurant’s open concept—where guests can watch the chefs at work and select their own meals from serving counters and display cases—while also meeting stringent operational and hygiene requirements.
Custom-made commercial kitchen equipment – the heart of an open kitchen
At the heart of the entire restaurant is the custom-designed and custom-built catering equipment from ALUPRESS. The entire space is designed to be open—guests have a direct view of food preparation and can serve themselves from the serving counters and display cases. It is precisely this openness that places extreme demands on the design, craftsmanship, and hygiene of every catering element—everything must be not only functional but also visually flawless, as it is constantly in full view of customers. The restaurant is divided into several dining sections—a hot bar serving freshly prepared dishes, a cold bar with salads and desserts, a section for soups and packaged meals for purchase, and a café with a dessert display case.
All counters are crafted from a combination of natural oak wood grain with black and anthracite accents. Countertops made of black granite composite ensure durability and easy maintenance. Display cases for desserts and refrigerated products have been integrated directly into the counter units, creating a visually cohesive and ergonomically designed service area.

Tables and Chairs
The dining furniture was designed in several variations to suit the restaurant’s different zones and offer guests a diverse dining experience. The main dining area features sturdy tables with light-colored wooden tops on dark metal bases, paired with modern anthracite-colored polypropylene chairs that are durable, easy to clean, and ergonomically designed.
The second area features taller bar tables with elegant white wooden chairs, which lend the space an airy feel and a café-like atmosphere. Along the central counter are bar tables with upholstered benches in a terracotta shade, creating a more intimate setting for smaller groups of guests. All types of furniture share a unified design language—a combination of natural wood, metal, and modern materials.

Wall coverings, room dividers, and flower pots
Wall paneling and room dividers are an important part of the restaurant’s overall design. Wood paneling in a natural oak finish covers the lower sections of the walls, the service counters, and the partitions between the individual zones, lending the space a cohesive, warm character despite the industrial feel of the hypermarket building.
Partitions combining wood and glass panels separate the dining areas from the service areas, including the dish-return section with a conveyor belt. Planters made of a material that matches the paneling are placed along the benches and partitions, where live plants bring freshness and a natural atmosphere to the space. The overall impression is enhanced by a decorative grid ceiling made of natural wood, which was also included in the scope of delivery.

Facilities and Operational Elements
In addition to the visible parts of the restaurant, ALUPRESS also handled the production and installation of the operational elements. The dish-return section with a conveyor belt is concealed behind an elegant partition wall featuring informational text for guests, which visually separates the back-of-house area from the dining area. The kitchen area, equipped with professional catering equipment, was complemented by stainless steel countertops and shelving units custom-made to fit the space precisely.

Professional kitchen facilities
The restaurant’s interior features a number of design elements that give the space a unique identity and align it with the Globus brand’s values. The decorative grid ceiling made of natural wood is a dominant architectural feature that softens the space’s industrial character and improves its acoustic properties.
A large-scale wall mural featuring a map of the Czech Republic displays all Globus locations and traces the brand’s history from 1996 to the present. This element reinforces the brand’s identity and creates an emotional connection between guests and the space. The color palette of the entire interior—natural oak, anthracite, terracotta accents, and dark blue—was carefully selected to create a harmonious and modern whole.
